Assignments
Math - We are excited about our new Math Adoption! This year we are using Pearson's enVisionMATH 2.0. Students will have an Math homework sheet Mon-Thurs. We will have a weekly in class assignment on Tuesdays and a quiz on Fridays. We will be practicing Math Facts in class each day. It would be helpful for students to also practice Math Facts at home. Students will have access to Everyday Math Games and the Student Reference book online later during the year. I will send an email to let you know when it is ready.
Science/Social Studies - We also have a new Science adoption this year and will be using FOSS kits for Science instruction. Students will do the majority of their work in class. If there are at-home assignments or projects, they will be sent home in the homework folder. Quizzes on material will be given at the end of each unit.
Reading Street - Students will do their comprehension/vocabulary work in class. We will have a weekly in class assignment on Wednesdays and a quiz on Fridays. Students will have access to Reading Street online later during the year. I will send an email to let you know when it is ready.
Independent Reading - Students will have a weekly Reading Log distributed on Fridays and due the following Thursday. Students will need to read independently and summarize their reading 5 days a week. Parents - don't forget to initial the Reading Log each night! We want to encourage students to read one chapter book at a time, so please remind them to carry it back and forth in their backpack. Students will be taking Accelerated Reader tests online throughout the year to earn points for their weekly reading grade. This will be accessible through school only.
Spelling- The list will be distributed on Mondays. Students select items from the back of the list to do throughout the week totaling 40 points. Our spelling lists will be posted on spellingcity.com for extra spelling practice each week. Students will take a test on Fridays.
Cursive Handwriting - We will be using the Handwriting Without Tears approach to cursive. This work will take place in class and will not be assigned as homework. Please feel free to encourage your child to practice at home!
Writing Workshop - Students will maintain a writer's notebook in class. We will be doing our writing, sharing, and publishing during class.
